Eriophyid Mite Infographic

Every once in a while I get the opportunity to actually draw at work. When I do, it means there's a scientific diagram of a certain insect or pest that needs some updating because over time, the originals have become extremely pixellated. This is where I get to update those boring profile line drawings and give them a little pizazz. If I did this often enough, I'd start getting ideas of characters for a Sci Fi  flick... I mean, just look at this guy! Make him the size of a bus and that's pretty scary stuff right?

Alice Meets the Dodo

Found this wonderful, albeit creapy illustration by John Tenniel from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and I just had to draw it for last weeks Drawaholics challenge. Just put the final touches on it at lunch :)

Not sure I've ever seen a picture of a One-eyed One-horned Flying Purple People Eater... And since it's Halloween soon, I took it upon myself to draw one :)

Trantor the Troll from Ernest Scared Stupid

This weeks Drawaholics blog challenge was a Halloween Creature/Monster. To me, growing up in the 90's meant that we were more than okay with being a little zany and we watched a lot of TV that expressed that awesome cheese the 90's were notorious for . One of my favorites was the slew of Ernest movies that have... well... been forgotten. This weeks sketch is Trantor the Troll, the arch nemesis of Ernest P. Worrell from (in my opinion, the BEST Ernest movie made) Ernest Scared Stupid. 

Black Rhinoceros

Again, another past Drawaholics challenge. I'm a sucker for rhinos so naturally I had to do this one. On an unrelated note, I've taken to sketching with pens recently and I've gotta say... I love it!!! No more wasting time with trivial things like erasing mistakes. In fact, using ink this past week has shown me that if you work at it long enough, covering up mistakes is quite easy. They actually lend themselves to the shading and texture that come later on. 

The Walrus is Quite the Distinguished Gentleman

I've been MIA from the Drawaholics blog I participate in but managed to find a little time during my lunch break to put this piece together. I'm not sure if the origins of a walrus wearing a top hat and monocle began from Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland, but I dare say that a walrus wearing a top hat and monocle looks very distinguished indeed.

 

Late Night Sketching with the Fancy Pens

The effects of cranking up the tunes, switching off the tube and letting the sounds of Rock n' Roll command ones creative juices. I think the idea just evolved from my subconscious thoughts of getting back into making music... See what I did there? 

Gorilla Study

Recently put together this sketch on my lunch break then added the final touches later that night. I find myself getting more comfortable with hair definition given the last couple months of constant sketching.

Late Night Illustration

You know those creative, late nights when you're really into what you're working on and you look at the clock and say to yourself, "I should probably go to sleep now" only to stay up for another couple hours completely ignoring the logical side of your brain?? That's where this latest illustration came from... the depths of sleep deprivation through delirious doodling.

Gear'd

Messing around with the transform and offset path effects in Illustrator the other day and came up with this. 

As a huge fan of honey, I though I'd create my own brand. I ultimately found myself thinking about what honey actually is, and I remember learning that it is regurgitated pollen that bees collect and use as a primary food source. So, as you're eating spoonfuls of the delicious substance, remember, you're eating bee barf! Also, for all you honey manufacturers, this logo is for sale :)

Yellow Sunbird

I watched a documentary last night from PBS, "Nature: Birds of the Gods, " and it inspired me to try my hand at, well… Birds. The difficult part was actually trying to find an image online of this specific species. Since the documentary didn't reveal the name of this bird, I spent a decent amount of time typing random descriptors into google. You'd  be surprised how many yellow-bellied, hooked/needle beaked, nectar feeding birds there are. The end result is this: the Yellow-bellied Sunbird, a member of the Asity family, native to Madagascar.

Follow up to last weeks post

I spent the better part of after work hours trying to put this together with the iPad… It's the other half to Satan playing guitar. I may come back and touch up the wings later, but for now, I'm pretty stoked with the results.

New Years Revolution

Well, I guess we've all got 'em… So what's this year's New Years resolution? Draw more. Be creative. Be productive. So here are the first couple attempts at the whole "productive" thing using the new iPad… Pretty happy with the results!
